Cheltenham Town’s most convincing performance since Michael Duff became coach
Coming off last week’s 2 – 0 loss to Stevenage, the team came particularly close to their first ever League 2 win under Michael Duff’s management. An early goal from Mansfield, who went into the game with an eight-game unbeaten run was quickly returned by Ben Tozer coming only 3 minutes later from a pass by Chris Clements, to put the game back on even terms. A header from the far post by Boyle put the Robins ahead just before halftime. Overall, an impressive display from Cheltenham, who seemed determined to prove that this season would not find them everyone’s pushover.
The team showed real cohesion and determination till the end
In the second half, Mansfield switched to a 4-2-4 formation to try and even the score but the Robins proved up to the challenge until the 93rd minute, when a mistake by Chris Hussey gave Walker his second goal of the match to end the game with a 2-2 draw. While the boys must have been devastated with the last minute equalizer, the fans will have learned that the team is not a hopeless case by any long shot.
Cheltenham needs to maintain top performance to avoid FA Cup upset
The Robins need to put up a performance as convincing as the match against Mansfield in next week’s FA Cup match against Ebbsfleet United to win the prize money and a place in the second round games.
