Brewin Dolphin has hosted Bonkers Conkers for the sixth consecutive year. The wealth management company held the event at the Lloyds Lounge in Exeter. Participants in this year’s edition were Exeter-based businesses like Gilbert Stephens, Stephens Scown, Bush Accountants, Trowers & Hamlin, Dunn & Baker, Francis Clark and Everys.
The Conkers game is a game where participants’ horse-chestnut (conker) is suspended by a length of string until the opponent’s conker is destroyed before their own. As a tradition, the seven businesses that were present for the event competed with the goal of taking the King Conker Trophy home.
According to Kelly Eva, the Chartered Wealth Manager of Brewin Dolphin, “We held a world-cup style group stage, with the winners of each going on to battle it out in the semi-finals.” She explained further that, “After some excellent food, everyone gathered to watch the gripping final between ‘Katie’s Conkerors’ of Dunn & Baker and ‘The Horse BESTnuts’ from Trowers and Hamlin. ‘Katie’s Conkerors’ emerged victorious after five minutes of tense conker action.”
Heartswell was presented with the ‘Charity of the Year’ Award by Brewin Dolphin South West at the event. The organization was given the award over its supportive works for heart patients and their careers. Funds were also raised for the organization through a guess competition. Dan Pollard of Dunn & Baker guessed the answer right for the number of conkers in a jar.
Dolphin, host of the Bonkers Conkers event, have offices in Exeter, Plymouth and Truro.
