Eighteen months after planning bosses gave the go-ahead, a new Aldi store is opening on Hucclecote Road, Gloucester, on November 15. The doors will open for the first time at 8am and the first 30 customers will get some free groceries. To mark its opening, the five-time Olympian, Frances Houghton, will be joined by the new store’s manager Tom Marshall to open the store.
Frances Houghton was part of the team GB crew that won silver in the women’s eight rowing event at Rio 2016, and also won in the London 2012 and Beijing 2008 games.
Ms Houghton said: “As an athlete, I know the importance of a healthy, balanced diet and having access to fresh produce. Aldi’s range of fresh fruit and veg is so affordable it makes it easy to whip up tasty, nutritious meals.”
Mr Marshall added: “We’re really excited to open the Hucclecote Road store after all of the hard work that’s gone on behind the scenes to get everything ready for our customers. The team and I can’t wait to meet France– it’s not every day you get to meet a local Olympic hero.”
The new Aldi on Hucclecote Road will replace the former headquarters of the security company, Allcooper in its more than 1,254 sq metres space.
