IKEA has recently opened the first of its smaller stores, called the IKEA Planning Studio, in London’s Tottenham Court Road.
IKEA, worldwide Swedish furniture giant has dissuaded rumours that it could be eyeing up a branch in Gloucester – for now.
IKEA is a brand that has grown and become globalised over the years, with millions of customers and clients who would like to see them open up in the city, and that seemed to become more of a possibility with it trialling smaller, high street-style stores alongside the huge purpose-built warehouses it is best known for.
The IKEA Planning Studio is the first of its smaller stores to be opened and is located in London’s Tottenham Court Road.
Many think the former home of BHS, in Eastgate Street, Gloucester is an ideal home should it ever roll that model out further.
However, during an interview with Gloucestershire Live, a spokesperson for IKEA said it could be a long wait, stressing that the new format is still very much in its testing phase.
IKEA’s statement said: “At the moment we are focusing on London as part of our city centre approach, starting with the opening of the IKEA Planning Studio on Tottenham Court Road.
“We are also exploring other potential high street locations and formats in other London boroughs.
“Whilst we are testing and trying this new format, we cannot confirm any other locations at this moment in time.”
