Velindra–the shape-shifting Bristol bar

Bristol’s Velindra bar closed down in August 2018 and many are curious about what it will become. The bar hosted a comedy night titled ‘This next act’. The show posted the announcement of the venue’s closure on Facebook. In the post, the show stated that they had just been informed by the landlord that Velindra, the current home of ‘This next act’, would be closing down. The riverside Bristol bar in Commercial Road is reportedly now under new management.

The bar has taken on different names and looks over the past 10 years. It was a cream coloured building with big blue letters that spelled USHERS in the front. In October 2012, the bar stood as a cream and orange building that offered disco, karaoke and live entertainment during the weekends.

In May 2014, the building was painted a deep purplish-red. Its sign stated that it was a little pub with a big surprise. In June 2015, the building’s colour remained the same but this time it offers open mic nights and a beer garden.

In April 2017, the river-side bar took on a grey colour and it was named The Nook. In July 2018, Velindra retained The Nook’s colour but adapted a world cup theme.

The bar is a small but popular pub and people are curious as to what the new management plans to do with it. A mural of a hooded skeleton has recently been added to the side of the bar.
