Sarah King, a well-known fashion blogger, met with Abi Reader, a dairy farmer in the third-generation from South Wales. As Sarah observes Abi milking her cows, she can’t hide her distress. The 26-year-old blogger became a vegetarian from the moment she watched a documentary called Cowspiracy on Netflix.  She feels that the way humans are using animals for their purpose is wrong and that she would love to see dairy ranches convert into animal reserves. Sarah says that cows can be used as food or as pets if you live with them. Abi, a third-generation agriculturist from the Vale of Glamorgan, articulates that dairy ranching runs through her veins.

Abi’s Typical Working Day as a Dairy Farmer

A few of Abi’s herd originated from the first 16 cows her grandfather purchased in the 1940s, and cattle farming traces back in her lineage even further.  She reveals that this is her means of livelihood. Abi rises to milk her cattle, comprised of 200 Dairy Shorthorns and Holstein Friesians daily at 4:30 am. However, she’s labelled as a murderer, rapist, and kidnapper for looking after cows. Despite this, she continues to be a dairy farmer as this has always been what her family was doing even before she was born.  Both women with diverse views met on Abi’s farm for the British Talk series, Daily Mirror. The following day, Abi paid a visit to the vegan cafes and shops in Sarah’s home town.

Sarah Highly Advocates for Animal Freedom

In Bristol, Sarah gets up at 6 am most of the time. She then blogs about vegan fashion and goes to work at a training firm afterwards. She states that she’s a vegan since she doesn’t think it’s morally correct to hurt an animal or use it for individual benefit.  Sarah further explains that society had transitioned from a time when it needed animals to live. The honey, egg, and dairy industries do pain animals, even though they have the uppermost welfare standards, according to Sarah.
