Mitch Tonks Confirms Opening Date for Rockfish Exeter

Exeter’s newest seafood restaurant is currently under construction at Exeter Quayside, but its owner has revealed its opening date.

Local traders have eagerly awaited the arrival of the restaurant, as they believe it will boost trade in the area by attracting seafood fans to the canal-side area.

Celebrity chef, Mitch Tonks, who owns the Rockfish fish and chip restaurant says that it is scheduled to finally open its doors in late February, 2019, after experiencing delays from lengthy and disruptive flood defence works.

Plagued with controversy, the restaurant has had to postpone its opening date twice. The neighbouring business, Bar Venezia objected to the upheaval due to the building of the branch. Medhat Awad, the owner of the opposing business, called its impact “drastic”, saying it would take away “90 percent of my outdoor space” which is popular with punters over the summer.

A Rockfish spokesperson commented, “We love being part of towns going through the regeneration cycle, putting a fish restaurant in key seaside locations which we hope is an added great draw for an area. We want to be a real part of the neighbourhood. We know the pitfalls ‘chains’ can fall into and we’re putting in place plans that allow organic growth and great opportunities.”

The pioneering Rockfish structure is to be built from scratch—it will be constructed on land and away from the seaside off Piazza Terracina.
