Cannabis Legalisation: Canopy Growth plans to start selling in the UK in the first half of 2019

Canopy Growth has magnified its global footprint with cannabis legalization in the UK.

According to Mark Ware, Canopy Growth’s chief medical officer expressed that a new UK subsidiary will start the import and distribution of medical cannabis to pharmacies in the first 2 quarters of 2019.

Spectrum Cannabis, a subsidiary of Canopy Growth, is looking to simplify cannabis for both healthcare practitioners and patients. The company operates in South America, Australia, Europe, and Africa. Its products include cannabis oils, flower cannabis, as well as new offerings such as softgels.

The UK government officially allowed the use of medical cannabis on November 1, 2018. The legalisation indicates that physicians can now legally prescribe cannabis for medical use to their UK patients.

Home Secretary Sajid Javid said: “Having been moved by heartbreaking cases involving sick children, it was important to me that we took swift action to help those who can benefit from medicinal cannabis.”
