Following an explosion on Monday, October 22, a man from Poole has been arrested on suspicions of causing a Dorset home to partially collapse. The residents nearby were evacuated to safety and a cordon was placed around the residence.
The suspect is currently in the hospital in a serious condition, as he faces potential charges of causing criminal damage, with the intent to endanger life.
Two people were injured in the explosion, but it is not perceived that anyone else was in the building at the time it occurred, except for a woman in her 60s who was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
Occurring around 2 pm, the cause of the explosion is in the process of being investigated, with a focus on the gas cylinders within the property.
The Detective Inspector of Dorset Police, Jamie Halford, says, “This incident required a significant multi-agency response and I would like to thank all those involved. “We are continuing to liaise with the fire service to establish the cause and have launched a detailed investigation into the incident.”
The police are thanking motorists and members of the public for continued patience during road closures after the incident occurred, enabling the emergency services to handle affairs and hold investigations. Their appreciation also goes to the evacuated residents for their co-operation with the police.
Anyone with information that may assist the investigation is encouraged to contact the police.
