Kitesurfer Who Died at Sauton Beach Has Been Identified


Last Saturday, a kitesurfer died at the Sauton Beach, North Devon. Due to the sudden turnout of events, the officials weren’t able to identify him immediately. Today, it was found out that the person was a local named Ben Witts. He was an experienced kitesurfing instructor who worked at the North Devon Kitesurfing school.

He was immediately brought to the North Devon District Hospital via airlift. The South Western Ambulance Service Trust sent one ambulance and an air ambulance to the location of the incident. They also sent one operations officer to survey the scene. He was still alive when he was carried to the ambulance, but he died in the hospital shortly after.

His girlfriend, Cheylee Hawson took it to Facebook about how devasted she was with her boyfriend’s death. She wanted to inform everyone who knew him about what happened before the news releases his name to the public. She also stated that she tried to help pull him out of the water before the paramedics arrived, revealing that she was with him when the incident happened.

One of his friends, Phil Parry also paid tribute to his friend through a Facebook post. He stated that Witts have just started running his own kitesurfing school last year, which has been his dream for a very long time.

Through other Facebook tributes, it could be concluded that he also worked at Bourne Fitness as a personal instructor and trainer.

According to the North Devon Kitesurfing website, Witts was a BSKA senior instructor and a qualified personal trainer. He was also a Whatsapp paddleboarding instructor.

He owned the North Devon Kitesurfing School. They collaborated with 40cean last 2018 to help the environment. One of his goals was to be more involved with environmental concerns.

His local kitesurfing spots are Woolacombe, Westward Ho! And Saunton, where he met this tragic incident.
