British radio presenter and DJ Trevor Nelson is coming to Barnstaple on November 23, 2019. The visit is part of his United Kingdom tour called Soul Nation.
Trevor Nelson started his broadcasting career in 1985 at the Kiss pirate station, which later on was licensed to be Kiss London 100 FM. Nelson soon became the director and daytime DJ of Kiss London 100 FM. Being a catalyst to the careers of Mica Paris, D’Angelo, and David Hall, he later on transferred to BBC Radio 1 where he hosted the first in national radio history RNB program called “The Rhythm Nation”.
In 1997, Nelson was awarded the MOBO Award as the Best DJ, and he was a mainstay at BBC Radio 1 until the year 2013.
Aside from his radio broadcasting career, Nelson also appeared in several television shows. His first appearance on TV was in 1998 on MTV UK where he presented The Lick at the back of his RNB program on Radio 1. From there, he appeared as judge in the TV series Just the Two of Us, both in 2006 and 2007. Nelson also co-hosted NFL UK starting September 2009 on Channel 5, together with Natalie Pinkham. He even presented live coverage of the FIFA World Cup concert held in South Africa in 2010. He is the first black person to appear on The Jack Docherty Show on Channel 5.
Currently, Trevor Nelson’s The Rhythm Nation is being aired every Mondays to Thursdays, 8 pm to 10 pm. He is also still broadcasting during weekends on 1Xtra shows on BBC Radio 2.
Nelson will be at The Factory, Barnstaple later this year to share some old school rhythm and blues music, soul and hip hop pieces. The Barnstaple addition to his UK tour was not part of the original sequence of his Soul Nation music tour.
