North Somerset RTC Soccer Teams Impressive in Second Overseas Trip

After playing in the East Mallorca Cup, the North Somerset Regional Talent Centre (RTC) soccer teams played in their second overseas tour in three months. This time, the competition was the Hageland Cup, which was held in Belgium.

There were a total of 25 persons including staff, family members, and all the players who travelled to Antwerp to participate in one of the most prestigious and biggest youth football tournaments across Europe. The North Somerset team fielded a total of 5 under-nine teams, 3 teams from under-11, and a single team in under-15.

The under-nine squad, which was coached by former player and current young Bristol Rovers Professional player, Luke Russ, and another former player, Ethan Feltham, were the runners-up in their competitive group.
The under-15 team did not concede a goal with one win and two draws but loss two penalty shootouts to finish second in their group. The under – 11 team, which was coached by Scott Campbell and Alex White, won all three. games with an aggregate score of 8 – 3 to qualify for the next round the following day.
However, on the second day, the team failed to sustain their impressive run as they drew all 3 games but lost each of the penalty shootouts to finish fifth out of 32 teams.

The Hageland Cup is one of the leading international football tournaments in Belgium that features young and up-and-coming football players coming from at least 10 different countries. It features more than 250 teams from different age categories and has been ongoing for more than 30 years.
