Lalor has recorded a second surprising victory this year after he defied the odds to win fences in the Arkle trial.
Lalor whose trainer, Richard Woollacott’s died ten months ago defied the 11-2 odds to score a well deserved victory in front of the 20, 000 crowd at the Arkle Trial.
Trained by Widow Kaley after the death of Richard Woollacott and rode by Jockey Richard Johnson at the trial, Lalor now has the odds in his favor as the odds of him coming second favorite for the Arkle Chase is now at the Cheltenham Festival now sits at 6-1.
Earlier in April, Lalor had won another surprising victory after a victory over hurdles at Aintree.
Commenting on the success recorded by Lalor, Richard Johnson who rode him to victory said: “We’ve worked so hard for this. He took to it like a duck to water. It was amazing.”
While many people believed that Lalor could indeed go on to give a good showing and fulfil his late trainer’s faith in his ability to become a big chaser, not many gave him a chance that night as shown by even the odds.
Richard Johnson however remarked about this, saying it was their bravery despite the way the odds were stacked that paid off. According to him: “We’re on Plan F probably, we’ve tried so hard to get out before now and I suppose we’ve learned that sometimes it pays to be brave.”
