Romans boss Jerry Gill was full of praise for his lads on their 3-1 win over Woking FC. He feels strongly the team wanted this win to happen with the right frame of mind they went into the match with.

A week prior to this game, Bath City had a dismal FA Cup defeat to Weston-Super-Mare.

Romans boss Jerry Gill must have given the players some encouragement after that episode as City went about this business with precision and aplomb. Three goals were scored in the first half of the game with Adam Mann, Robbie Cundy and Anthony Straker on the score sheet for Bath City.

Gill came up with a new tactical formation (4-2-3-1), usually not deployed, and followed through with an execution on the pitch. Gill’s strategy was to pull out the opposition defenders and defensive midfielders out, giving his wingers more room to strike. Striker Ryan Brunt was replaced with Joe Raynes and Adam Mann was given a central offensive role position.

The Romans boss, during a post-match interview, said, ‘’What a magnificent show the boys put up, contesting and winning in every aspect of the game. You saw the resilience and strong will from these boys not to let the opponents go away without a good fight. The incredible heart shown today was just remarkable. Overall nice performance and combined brilliance exhibited by the players. ’’ Jerry Gill believes his encouragement and motivation were what the boys needed to soar on this occasion after putting behind their loss to Working FC.

Saturday’s victory means the Romans are in the third position in the National League South.
