Tom George is anticipating unleashing Grade one-winning hurdler, Black OP, over fences on Wednesday, in the RGB Building Supplies Beginners Hurdle at Exeter.
In this contest, Black OP will face nine rivals in a two-and-a-quarter-mile race. Owned by Roger Brookhouse, the seven-year-old gelding is the general 8 – 1 favourite for next year’s JLT Novices’ Chase at the Cheltenham Festival.
After finishing second in the Ballymore At Cheltenham, Black OP claimed victory at the top level in the Mersey Novices Hurdle at Aintree.
George has stated that the gelding is great and ready to go adding that he’s a laid back hose but he wakes up at races when he needs to. He schooled on grass on Monday, and jumped well when Noel Fehily came in to ride him. He’s also had a clean run since he has come in, and although two-and-a-half is probably his ideal trip, this race is a good starting point.
On the line-up for the opposition once again, will be the Ben Pauling trained Kidistart, who finished down the field at the Merseyside track when the pair last met in April.
According to Pauling, it took Kidistart a run to get fit last year, and he might just need it again. He didn’t turn up at Aintree for his final start but Pauling said it was just a case of one run too many. Pauling also mentioned that the ground is fine so they’re looking forward to letting the novice chaser take his chance.
