Bournemouth could be without their captain, Simon Francis, when they host Manchester United at the Vitality Stadium this weekend. The captain, who hobbled off during Bournemouth’s Carabao cup victory over Norwich on Tuesday, could miss the premier league encounter with United on Saturday.
Bournemouth secured their place into the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup competition with a 2-1 victory over rival Norwich on Tuesday night. The team now faces United after a performance described by manager Eddie Howe as “disappointing.”
It took the Cherries eight changes for victory to be attained on Tuesday night. The English side could be forced to make more changes when they receive Mourinho’s United at the Vitality Stadium this weekend.
Francis has featured in nine of Bournemouth’s league matches so far this term but is unlikely to star for the club this weekend, according to Club manager Howe.
“It looked like Simon Francis just tweaked his groin which is why we brought him off,” he said. “We’re not sure how serious that is yet.
“It was a tough night for us. Norwich played very well so full credit to them. We were below par and rode our luck which made it a difficult game for us.
“We looked disjointed, maybe due to players coming in who haven’t had enough games, but we lacked a sharpness and fluency that’s usually there. Overall, it was a disappointing performance but we withstood the pressure and found a way to win. It’s great to be in the next round,” Howe said in a statement after the victory on Tuesday.
