Alex Austerberry, head coach of Saracens Women has said his team’s 48-24 win at Allianz Parkmarks is one of their best performances so far in this season.
The Women in Black got off to a great start with a few goals in the opening minutes, and held off the visitors’ efforts to even the score line.
“I don’t think anything’s ever perfect but it was a very good response,” said Austerberry. “We came out of the traps really quickly and scored two quick tries.
“Gloucester-Hartpury came back in the second half and put us under real pressure, but I thought one of the key areas today was that we managed those pressure moments that bit better.
“We managed to not just wrestle momentum but won it back at key times, like when Gloucester came back and got within two tries of us, scoring straight off the back of that with some really incisive play was brilliant.
“Forty-eight points against one of the better teams in the league is a good attacking display. We knew they would pose us some questions and real challenges with some of their width and speed in attack, but ultimately I think we put in one of our best performances of the season and one which had a lot of character and grit. It was much better.”
This victory is especially welcome as it arrives on the heels of last weekend’s demoralising loss against Harlequins, and considering that the team is missing a number of key players who have been sidelined due to injury.
