Stevenage defeated Cheltenham 2 – 0

The Cheltenham team had a great game one week earlier in their 1-1 draw against Forest Green Rovers. With this defeat, however, they will likely finish in the bottom two. The visitors were knocked into the lead with a header from Kurtis Guthrie. The goal was scored in the 18th minute after a cross from an unopposed Jamal Campbell-Ryce. Steve Seddon scored the second goal during the first half stoppage time.

Cheltenham’s formation was changed by Michael Duff from 4-4-2 to 4-3-3, putting Tyrone Barnett between Ryan Broom and Varney. The method failed and the team changed to a 3-5-2 formation later in the game. In the 40th minute, Hussey had a free kick that was saved by Seny Dieng.

The home team was booed at half-time and at the end of the game by fans who were just about 2,190 in attendance.

On Tuesday night, Cheltenham will play Arsenal in the Checkatrade Trophy. On Saturday, they will host Mansfield Town in their next League Two match.

If the team fails to turn things around, they are likely to have their fan attendance drop below 2,000. Since the club first won promotion to the Football League in 1999, its average crowds have not gotten that low.
