Dorset shop owner, Barbara Clements, has been named, for the third consecutive time, the Convenience Retailer of the Year by Appleby Westward.
Nick Kenworthy, the sales and marketing director of the regional distribution company for Spar stores in the south west – Appleby Westwards –– said that more than 50 Spar stores entered this year’s awards.
At the Appleby Westward’s annual awards ceremony, Clements’ store also won three prizes for best food-to-go, best produce, and best independent store. The award ceremony took place at the Bournemouth Hilton Hotel.
A major refurbishment was made on the community store in the summer. It obtained an expanded office licence, improved its food-to-go offer, and introduced new counters and enhanced Post Office services. This has truly been a landmark year for the store.
The judges said that Clements’ store, by improving their offer and redeveloping an already successful store, has demonstrated that there is always more room for improvement.
Awards were also won by other Dorset stores – including the Best Store Manager award, the Best Neighbourhood Forecourt Store award, the Community Retailer of the Year Award, Best Company-Owned Store award, and the Best Company-Owned Store award.
Several other awards were won by stores outside Dorset.
More than 140 guests, dressed in summer outfits, attended this year’s annual ceremony, which adopted a British Summer Party theme. The event was hosted by Chris Doc Strange, the comedy hypnotist. Guests were entertained with Summer-themed activities. A Beach Boys tribute band graced the event.
